IMAGINATIONS OF HOME;
An exhibition of intimate artworks
Home exists as much in imagination as in physical space. In “Imaginations of Home,” I explore the intimate moments that define our understanding - or lack of it - of family and belonging; the quiet conversations, shared silences, and unguarded poses that reveal our truest selves.
Each piece presents family members in faceless portraits, a deliberate choice that transforms the personal into the universal. Without the specificity of individual features, these figures become vessels for collective memory. The viewer sees their own grandmother in a contemplative pose, their own sibling in a moment of reflection, their own understanding - or lack of it - of what home means.
The vibrant, prismatic backgrounds speak to the emotional complexity of family relationships; the way love, memory, imaginings, nostalgia, and longing blend together in our consciousness. These aren’t documentary portraits but emotional landscapes, where the feeling of home takes precedence over its literal representation.
This body of work represents a deepening exploration of family as subject matter in my second solo exhibition, marking a continued evolution toward more personal themes while maintaining the accessibility that allows others to find themselves within the work. Home, after all, is both deeply personal and beautifully universal.
The artworks are set to be on view in November, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria.
